Drive Genius 3 LE vs Drive Genius 3

Drive Genius 3 LE is a special version of the award-winning Drive Genius 3 product. This special version has some limitations when working with the main boot drive (see items below). Some of the tools are limited to external, non-boot drives while other tools can be used on any drives (the boot drive as well as external drives)

The following Drive Genius 3 LE tools can be used on your boot drive as well as any external drives...

• DriveSlim - Free up space on your hard drive with Duplicate Files Search, Large Files Search, Language Support Removal and Universal Binary Slimming for user-owned files.
• DrivePulse - With Drive Genius 3 LE, the DrivePulse tool can check your internal boot drive for the validity of your preferences, warning you if your preferences are corrupted. DrivePulse has other features that can be used on external, non-boot drives as well.
• Repair - Limited to Verify Preferences only.
• Information - In-depth report of specifications and space utilization of all drives or OS X Volumes.

The following Drive Genius 3 LE tools can ONLY be used on your external, non-boot drives...

• Defrag - Defragmentation of your files improves your performance and also improves your recovery options should your hard drive ever crash. Fragmented files not only slow your Mac down, but severely fragmented files can be harder to recover during an emergency recovery.
• Scan - Realtime bad-block scanning and an extended block verification that stress tests the read/write validity.
• Integrity Check - Find problems before they find you with these comprehensive hardware verification tests.
• Repartition - Add, delete, hide, expand or shrink OS X partitions so you can organize your drive more efficiently.
• Duplicate - Fast and easy volume or entire drive cloning.
• Shred - Stop prying eyes with DoD compliant (5220.22 - m) secure erase. Removes all traces of data from free space and deleted data on any drive or OS X volume.
• Benchtest - Make sure your hard drive performance is what it should be with comprehensive speed tests and graphical comparisons to other common configurations.
• Sector Edit - Fine tune all aspects of your system with direct, advanced byte viewing and editing of all data on your drives, volumes and files (for expert users only).

Drive Genius 3 LE has some limitations (see above) with internal drive access.	Works with external and internal startup drives, using Live Defrag for internal boot drive(s).
DrivePulse® is OFF by default, until enabled by user.	DrivePulse® is ON by default.
Limited to user files.	Works with user and system files.
Does not use a boot DVD.	Boot DVD or secondary bootable drive required for some operations on startup drive.
